Seamus Hughes

Seamus Hughes is a Duke cardiology fellow pursuing advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology training, with interests shaped by critical care, exercise physiology, and transplant-focused care. He was born and raised in the Boston area, attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and worked for several years in basic science research at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. He later attended Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern. His interest in cardiology developed during CCU rotations at Parkland Hospital and exercise physiology research at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine. At Duke, he has served as a CCU Fellow and was recognized for sustained patient-management support during a complex STEMI case. He was also praised as a patient and excellent teacher.
