Akhil Narang is a Northwestern cardiologist and faculty leader in cardiovascular imaging, serving as Associate Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory. His clinical work centers on advanced echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT, with particular emphasis on structural and valvular heart disease and imaging guidance for transcatheter interventions. His research explores emerging imaging tools, artificial intelligence and machine learning, including studies of AI-guided echocardiogram acquisition, automated chamber-volume measurement and wearable sensing for aortic stenosis. He earned his MD from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010, then trained at the University of Chicago through cardiology and advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowships. He has also held leadership roles in the ACC and SCMR and serves in editorial positions across cardiology journals.
