Darryl Abrams

Darryl Abrams is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, a medical intensivist and ECMO attending at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, and the Associate Medical Director and Director of Research of the Medical ECMO Program at the Center for Acute Respiratory Failure; he also serves as Medical Director of the ICU Triage Service and Intermediate Care Unit. He trained entirely at Columbia: internal medicine residency followed by the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship (2010–2013), where his fellow research project was on ECMO for hypoxemic respiratory failure and ARDS. His publications center on extracorporeal life support: early mobilization on ECMO, ventilator management during ECLS, ECPR, ECMO program organization, and the ethics of ECMO, with first-author reviews in JACC, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, AJRCCM and Intensive Care Medicine and co-authorship of ELSO guidelines. He is active on committees of ECMONet and ELSO and has been recognized repeatedly for teaching (Kimberg Junior Faculty Teaching Award, Ewig Clinical Scholar, multiple house-staff teaching awards).
