Faisal Shaikh is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and director of Columbia's interventional pulmonology program, a joint effort of the pulmonary division and thoracic surgery. He earned his MD at the University of Tennessee (AOA), trained in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, completed pulmonary and critical care fellowship at UCLA and interventional pulmonology fellowship in the Harvard combined Beth Israel Deaconess/Massachusetts General program. His clinical work is minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy for lung nodules, lung cancer, airway obstruction and pleural disease, and he helped build Columbia's lung volume reduction program. He is second author of the 2022 JAMA review on diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary sarcoidosis and first author of reviews on medical thoracoscopy and sarcoidosis imaging, of a study of AI-assisted POCUS cardiac-output measurement, and a coauthor on Columbia's post-COVID fibrosis histopathology cohort. The fellowship's interventional bronchoscopy rotation and EBUS training run under the division's interventional bronchoscopists; he speaks Urdu.
