Gerald Bloomfield matters for helping establish global cardiovascular health as a field of work at Duke, with a focus on cardiovascular disease and heart failure in African populations. He arrived at Duke as a cardiology fellow in 2007 after medical missionary work in Kenya, then completed Duke’s Cardiovascular Medicine Fellowship, Cardiovascular Clinical Research Fellowship, Global Health Residency/Fellowship, and a Fogarty International Clinical Research Fellowship. He joined the Duke faculty in 2011. Bloomfield was credited with launching a clinical research program at Moi University in Eldoret to study cardiovascular disease among East Africans and helps direct the Duke-Moi cardiology research collaboration. He is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine, Associate Director for Research at the Duke Global Health Institute, Associate Research Professor of Global Health, and a Duke Clinical Research Institute member.
