Joseph Andrew Kisslo is a Duke professor of medicine whose career helped establish real-time phased-array echocardiography. Trained in internal medicine, pediatric cardiology, and adult cardiology, he earned his M.D. from Drexel University in 1967. He collaborated with Duke colleagues to build and implement the first phased-array imaging device and was the first to perform both two-dimensional and three-dimensional echocardiographic examinations using real-time phased-array systems. His interests include echocardiography, cardiac imaging, medical economics, and remote adult education through telemedicine. He has served as a founder and early president of the American Society of Echocardiography, chaired a quality-improvement committee, and authored four books on echocardiography. Duke identifies him as Clinical Director of Telemedicine and Executive Producer of Echo in Context.
