Claire McGroder

Claire McGroder is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Columbia's Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care who cares for patients with interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis and runs ILD clinical trials. A Pomona College and UT Health San Antonio graduate, she completed internal medicine residency and the PCCM fellowship at Columbia (fellow 2018–2022, with a research project on risk factors for subclinical and clinical fibrotic lung disease), supported by a Columbia T32 in lung science (2020–2022) and a Mailman patient-oriented research grant (2021–2023). Her first-author work includes the Thorax study linking post-COVID pulmonary fibrosis to illness severity and leukocyte telomere length, MESA Lung analyses of interstitial lung abnormality incidence and biomarkers, and longitudinal follow-up of severe COVID-19 survivors; she is a frequent coauthor with Christine Kim Garcia, David Zhang and Matthew Baldwin. She also appears as a middle author on the highly cited Nature Medicine review of post-acute COVID-19 syndrome.
