Selim M. Arcasoy is the Dickinson W. Richards, Jr. Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Clinical Chief of the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, and Medical Program Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia Lung Transplant Program, which he has led since being recruited from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001; the program performs more than 80 transplants a year and marked its 1,000th transplant in October 2019. He earned his MD at Ege University in Turkey and an MPH at Columbia's Mailman School, trained in internal medicine at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (1993–1994) and completed fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (1997). His research covers lung transplant candidate selection, waitlist outcomes and allocation policy, primary graft dysfunction and rejection, and advanced lung disease, and he is an author on the ISHLT consensus documents for lung transplant candidate selection (2006 and 2021). He previously chaired the AST Thoracic Organ Transplant Committee and the ACCP Transplant Network Steering Committee, served on the OPTN Thoracic Organ Transplant Committee developing continuous distribution of lungs, and is Associate Chair for Advanced Lung Failure and Transplantation of the ISHLT Standards and Guidelines Committee and Chair of the Lung Policy and Operations Committee of the New York Cardiothoracic Transplant Consortium.
