Laura Kristin Newby is a Professor of Medicine at Duke University and a member of the Duke Clinical Research Institute, with leadership experience in cardiovascular research and professional service. She earned an M.D. from Indiana University at Indianapolis in 1987, completed a Duke medical residency from 1987 to 1990, and was a Duke cardiology fellow from 1990 to 1993. Her research centers on the clinical investigation and treatment of acute and chronic coronary artery disease, including chest pain, unstable angina, biochemical markers, coronary disease in women, care delivery, and genetic contributions to disease. She previously held Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Associate in the Department of Medicine appointments at Duke. From 2020 to 2021, she led a Bass Connections project on hypertension disparities and treatment outcomes.
