John Salazar Schicchi

John Salazar Schicchi is a Professor of Medicine at Columbia, Section Chief for Pulmonary and Critical Care at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital and Director of the Allen ICU, the 12-bed mixed medical/surgical unit where Columbia PCCM fellows rotate late in their second year and run rounds with indirect supervision. He trained in medicine at the University of Buenos Aires, completed residencies at the Central Military Hospital in Buenos Aires and the Manhattan VA, and did pulmonary fellowship training at Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU. He is board certified in pulmonary disease, critical care and sleep medicine. His publication record comes largely from the Bellevue Chest and Mycobacteriology Service and NYU collaborations, covering tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteria, physician attitudes toward latent TB treatment, and racial disparities in lung cancer care; at Columbia he was a co-author of the Lancet cohort of critically ill COVID-19 adults in New York City.
