Genetic epidemiologist
Yongmei Liu is a genetic epidemiologist whose research connects population-scale genomics with mechanisms of aging-related inflammatory disease. At Duke University, she is Professor of Medicine, Professor in Population Health Sciences, a member of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute, and has appointments in Cardiology/Medicine and Neurology. Her work examines diabetes, atherosclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease through genetic and environmental factors, epigenomic and transcriptomic profiles, and integrated genome-wide, longitudinal, clinical-trial, and laboratory approaches. She previously held assistant, associate, and full professorships in Wake Forest University’s Public Health Division from 2004 to 2018. Liu earned an M.D. from Bengbu Medical College in China in 1991 and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2004.
