   Hope Menning, D.O. Chief resident What attracted you to medicine and family medicine? I grew up in a rural town in South Dakota, where helping others was the norm rather than the exception. It has always felt like second nature to me, so I figured a career where I got to help people every day would be a promising one. I was attracted to family medicine because of the variety. You get a good mix of peds, adult care, prenatal and OB care and procedures. Every day is different. There is also the option to specialize in many different areas, including OB, geriatrics, addiction medicine, sports medicine, etc. I think that family medicine trains you to be well-rounded and versatile. What attracted you to Mayo Clinic? I did an audition rotation and instantly knew I wanted to be at Mayo. The residents and faculty are great, and the training is top-tier. I also liked the duality of Mayo Clinic. You get the big academic center in Rochester with all of the resources and specialists. But you also get the rural family medicine experience at our resident-run clinic in Kasson. You have your own panel at Kasson, where you have a lot of autonomy over your patients. Show more
