Islam M. Othman is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke whose documented work combines interventional cardiology, complex coronary intervention, and outcomes research. His clinical interests include percutaneous coronary intervention and chronic total occlusion treatment, including complex catheterization procedures at Duke Health. Earlier, he directed WakeMed’s Complex PCI/CTO Program beginning in 2014. His research has examined stent-based treatment, dual antiplatelet therapy, bleeding and ischemic risk, and PCI outcomes across demographic groups, including through the EVOLVE studies. Othman earned his M.D. from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in 2004, completed internal medicine training from 2004 to 2007, and then completed cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology fellowships at East Carolina University from 2007 to 2011.
