Elizabeth M. McNally is a human geneticist and cardiologist who connects cardiovascular care with the genetics of inherited disease. She directs Northwestern University’s Center for Genetic Medicine and is the Elizabeth J. Ward Professor of Genetic Medicine, with professorships in Medicine (Cardiology) and Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics. Her interests include the genetic mechanisms of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, muscular dystrophy, arrhythmias, and aortic aneurysms, as well as genetic correction and gene editing therapies. Clinically, she provides care for patients and families with inherited heart disease and incorporates genetic information into cardiovascular diagnosis and treatment. She established one of the first Cardiovascular Genetics Clinics in the United States, has directed an independent laboratory for more than 20 years, and has mentored more than 80 trainees.
