Robert O. Bonow matters as a senior academic cardiology leader whose work spans cardiovascular quality, outcomes research, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, valve disease, and heart failure. He is the Max and Lilly Goldberg Distinguished Professor of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973, completed medicine training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and became a cardiovascular disease fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in 1979. Bonow has served as Editor-in-Chief of JAMA Cardiology since 2016 and edits Braunwald's Heart Disease. He chairs major ACC and multidisciplinary valve-care writing efforts. Earlier leadership included presidency of the American Heart Association from 2002 to 2003.
