Christopher Dale Kontos is a Duke cardiologist and physician-scientist whose leadership in physician-scientist training complements research on angiogenesis and vascular remodeling. He earned his M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1989, completed medicine residency at the Medical College of Virginia from 1989 to 1993, and trained in cardiology at Duke University Medical Center from 1993 to 1997. Duke lists him as Professor of Medicine, Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, Professor of Cell Biology, and Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program. He has been a member of the Duke Cancer Institute since 1993. His clinical interests include cardiology and cardiac evaluation of athletes, while his laboratory studies endothelial receptor tyrosine kinase signaling, vascular growth, and remodeling in conditions including peripheral artery disease, atherosclerosis, and cancer.
