Douglas E Vaughan

Douglas E. Vaughan is a Northwestern cardiovascular physician-scientist and faculty leader whose work connects cardiovascular disease, thrombosis, and aging. He directs the Potocsnak Longevity Institute and is Irving S. Cutter Professor of Medicine Emeritus and Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Feinberg. His research program spans basic, translational, and clinical studies of the plasminogen activator system in cardiovascular disease and aging. Vaughan earned his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1980, completed internal medicine residency at Southwestern from 1980 to 1984, and trained in cardiovascular disease at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 1984 to 1987. He later held senior Vanderbilt roles before serving as Northwestern’s Department of Medicine chair from 2008 to 2023.
