David Elliott is a physician-scientist focused on advanced heart failure, transplantation, and cardiovascular immunometabolism. He grew up in South Florida, studied Biology and Chemistry at the University of South Carolina, earned a PhD in biomedical sciences there, and attended Duke for medical school and internal medicine residency. He completed Duke cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology fellowships, and during residency conducted research in the White-McGarrah Lab through Duke’s SCI-StARR R38 program. His clinical interests include end-stage heart failure, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplantation. His research interests include macrophages, branched-chain amino acid metabolism, animal models of heart failure and transplantation, and HLA epitopes. A Duke announcement dated August 23, 2026, said he was scheduled to join the cardiology faculty as an associate professor on August 24.
During residency, conducted research in the White-McGarrah Lab with Robert McGarrah and Phillip White.
