Stuart Rich is a cardiologist and pulmonary-hypertension specialist whose work spans disease biology, epidemiology, clinical care, and treatment development. He is Professor Emeritus of Medicine (Cardiology) at Northwestern University. After earning his MD from Loyola University/Stritch School of Medicine in 1974, he completed internal-medicine training at Washington University in St. Louis and cardiology fellowship at the University of Chicago, finishing in 1980. He was principal investigator for the NIH Registry on Primary Pulmonary Hypertension and has led a major US clinical center for pulmonary-hypertension evaluation and treatment since 1980. His current work includes novel drugs and devices for advanced pulmonary hypertension and right-heart failure, while Northwestern’s program offers approved medicines, procedures, pulmonary endarterectomy, and lung transplantation. He also contributes to global pulmonary-hypertension research and serves as Tenax Therapeutics’ Chief Medical Officer.
