Thomas Joseph Povsic is a Duke cardiologist whose work connects interventional practice with regenerative and gene-based cardiovascular therapeutics. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Duke University, with interests in cardiology and progenitor cell therapeutics for atherosclerotic disease. At Duke, he has led cardiac stem cell therapy trials and served as principal investigator for the phase 1/2 EXACT trial of XC001 for refractory angina. His earlier Duke appointments included Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Instructor, Temporary in the Department of Medicine, as well as membership in the Duke Clinical Research Institute. He earned an M.D. from Harvard University in 1995, completed Duke medical residency from 1995 to 1998, and was a Duke cardiology fellow from 1998 to 2004.
