Nausheen Akhter is a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine whose clinical and research interests center on cardio-oncology, cardiac imaging, valvular heart disease, and heart disease in women. She leads the ATRIUM clinical trial evaluating abatacept for immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated myocarditis. Her training includes a Northwestern BA and MD, Internal Medicine training at Indiana University, cardiovascular disease fellowship at the University of Illinois, and Level III Echocardiography fellowship at Northwestern. Akhter also holds leadership roles in ACC health equity and cardio-oncology initiatives, chairs Chicago-wide cardio-oncology rounds, and serves as an editor or editorial board member for cardiovascular journals. Her teaching and patient-centered contributions have received multiple honors, including Northwestern’s 2025 Humanitarian Award.
