   Biographical context: During residency at St. John, I found myself drawn to the MICU because of its team-based nature, the time spent with patients and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives, and the constant challenge of learning how to care for truly sick patients.

During residency at St. John, I found myself drawn to the MICU because of its team-based nature, the time spent with patients and families during some of the hardest moments of their lives, and the constant challenge of learning how to care for truly sick patients. Critical care has a way of quickly showing you what you know, what you don’t know, and what you need to learn next - which is probably why I love it. As the Academic Chief Resident, my goal is to be approachable, easy to work with, and supportive, while still helping us push each other to work hard and improve. I care a lot about practical education, procedural confidence, and making didactics useful for the actual work we do in the hospital. Outside of medicine, I spend most of my time chasing some form of outdoor activity or reading a book. I am usually happiest somewhere outside, preferably with a backpack, a bike, or a questionable plan that sounds reasonable at the time.
