Svati Hasmukh Shah is a Duke cardiovascular physician-scientist and research leader whose work connects genetics, data science, and cardiovascular disease. At Duke, she is Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases, Professor of Medicine, Associate Dean for Translational Research, and Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. She also belongs to the Duke Clinical Research Institute and Duke Molecular Physiology Institute. Shah leads OneDukeGen, which aims to enroll 100,000 patients, and is newly appointed president-elect of the American Heart Association. Her career took shape during a Duke cardiology fellowship in the early 2000s, when unexplained heart attacks in young adults helped prompt CATHGEN. Earlier, she established an adult cardiovascular disease genetics clinic and led global-health cardiovascular research in India. She also advocates for women in science and cardiovascular prevention.
