Francis J. Klocke is a cardiovascular physician-scientist and academic leader whose research centered on coronary circulation, including normal control mechanisms and abnormalities in coronary artery disease. After earning his MD from SUNY Buffalo in 1960, he trained at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the National Institutes of Health, then joined the University at Buffalo faculty in 1965. He became professor of medicine in 1971 and chief of cardiology from 1976 to 1991. From 1991 to 2006, he directed Northwestern’s Feinberg Cardiovascular Research Institute. Klocke is Professor Emeritus of Medicine (Cardiology) at Northwestern and a past president of the American College of Cardiology. His clinical interests include coronary artery disease, coronary circulatory abnormalities, and angina with normal coronary arteries.
