During my gap years I moved home to Hawai’i and worked as a scribe in the Emergency Department which changed my whole trajectory! I loved the fast pace of the ED, camaraderie and teamwork, diversity of patients, and hands-on nature of the specialty. My mentors there supported me in my journey to pursue medicine, and I found that it was one of the best ways to integrate my interest in science and desire to care for my community into one.
