Bharathi Upadhya is a Duke cardiology faculty leader whose work centers on heart failure, especially heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), with related interests in imaging, rehabilitation, exercise physiology, aging, and adult congenital heart disease. She is listed as an Associate Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at Duke. Her training includes an M.B.B.S. from the University of Mysore in 1995, internal medicine residency at Wake Forest University from 2004 to 2007, and cardiology fellowship at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center from 2007 to 2010. Her recent research includes rehabilitation for older adults with acute HFpEF, cardiac sarcoidosis imaging, arterial stiffness, and cardiovascular aging. She was recognized with Duke’s 2025 Excellence in Education Award for teaching cardiology fellows, sonographers, and sonography students.
