Choosing a Penn residency
Internal Medicine's Physician Scientist Pathway combines residency, clinical fellowship and mentored research with continuity clinic. It has its own application track; it is not the default structure of every Penn residency. Applicants may select both the physician-scientist and categorical tracks.

Penn's Medical Education Leadership Track accepts categorical Internal Medicine, primary-care and combined Medicine/Pediatrics residents. Residents apply during intern year and undertake mentored teaching and education scholarship during PGY-2 and PGY-3. Subspecialty fellowship interests do not exclude participation, but elective time needs deliberate planning.
